Collection: Tequila

The first production of Tequila began in the sixteenth century near the city of Tequila, which was not formally established until 1666. Before European contact, central Mexico consumed a fermented beverage called pulque made from agave plants. In order to produce one of the first indigenous spirits of North America, the Spanish started distilling agave when they ran out of their own brandy.
