This rum has been aged for 3 years in ex-bourbon casks, and then 7 years more in ex-madeira wine casks, displayed perfectly in its beautiful all natural reddish brown tone. This was bottled in 2017 with an abv of 56% at cask strength.
On the nose, you will get aromas of cooked fruit- pineapple, apples and banana, with a deep underlying note of oak and raisin, owing to the years it has spent in the ex-madeira casks, brightened at the end with a touch of lemon peel.
Despite being bottled at cask strength, it is smooth and easy to drink, with intense flavours that open up with a drop or two of water. It is pretty sweet to taste, where barely a hint of vanilla and caramel from the bourbon cask comes forth with a hint of citrus and an underlying spice with a long rich smokey oak presence. Towards the end, spice notes of nutmeg and cinnamon provide a long finish with a tinge of eucalyptus.
